Jim Brady: Deborah has chosen for the time being not to any live discussions, but we've talked about it, and you'll see her on here at some point.
Jeff Jarvis: I'll push the transparency button: Why not? I worked with Deborah (at my last job). She is, indeed, tough. So I don't believe she fears this; I wouldn't make that simplistic assumption. So I have to believe she has a reason she believes is good for avoiding live interaction. What is it?
We still don't know the answer to that one. The silence says so much.

The other question is the extent to which Brady and Howell were lying about the "100's" of abusive emails and comments.
That lie was what the usual suspects seized on. I hope people ask to see this "100's" of whatevers because I don't believe they exist.

This was never going to be a "fair and balanced" discussion. It is about the 'elite' deigning to mix with the masses for a few minutes and appear to be genuinely interested in a dialogue - which was controlled, ignored and manipulated from the get go... gee, sound familiar?
- on the other hand, maybe it was a very fair and balanced forum, from a faux news POV (cheapshots are so easy sometimes)

You guys just dont get it at the WaPo do you? Here's something to get through your head. we don't need you anymore.
You have this staged event that is supposedly "live", but is in fact "moderated". You say you want to have an open dialogue with the blogger community, but then you run crying like a girlyman to your conservative media buddies, and cry about how mean we are. Give me a frickin break! You're in the news business. You news people all swear more than military folk do.
You are no better than the Bush Administration. Truth is dead to you. It doesn't even occur to you to have an honest discussion with people...you'd prefer to be a shill and a liar, and then attempt to spin your lies later.
You people want civility? You don't deserve no stinking civility!
I'll explain it for you as plainly as I can, I'll even use small words. WE DON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE. You don't report news, you spin lies for the GOP. You aren't nice to our blogger friends either, and we really don't like that.
Now before you go off with another fit of the vapors, listen. If we as bloggers didn't care, we wouldn't be having this conversation with you. We'd just stop reading your paper and website, and be done with it. Do you think we waste any effort with Fox News? We respect the history of the WaPo. We are just concerned about the current lack of integrity emanating from those hallowed halls.
I agree with others who have posted on this issue over the last week or so. You guys have your panties in a bunch because we are not credentialed journalists, we don't hobnob with you in all the right Washington parties, etc. And it apparently just bothers you to no end that we aren't even remotely interested with hobnobing in Washington either.
The information age is a big transition for the WaPo, I'm sure. We're here, and willing to help you in this process. But for Christ's sake, grow up and stop insulting us.

I can't say any of this follishness surprises me in the least. The only mistake Deborah made was working for a sinking trash-rag like the WaPo.
Uh...if Deborah Howell and Jim Brady are actually LYING about being so hurt by "personal attacks," then of course, we should once again call them on it by more cricism: LIAR. But, worse, their whining and "victimization" act TRIVIALIZES AND MOCKS real journalists who endure incredible risks every day, are murdered, taken hostage and killed in the course of their jobs. And, we should all be asking, "WHY DO JIM BRADY AND DEBORAH HOWELL HATE JOURNALISTS?"
